I decided to stop telling people to ground to the brace for a couple of reasons.
  • I discovered the older bikes (pre 06) the braces don't provide for a good solid ground.
  • Too many folks on here preaching their "theories" about heating up the grease in neck bearings and scaring other people

I have everything wired but am not getting power to the amp (i.e. amp power light does not come on when I turn ignition on). Again, coming from a newb, where should I start?

Kinda like you preach about the pbr300x4. I promise I will never answer another thread in this section again. Wouldn't want to preach, ya know.

Forgot to hook up the orange/white wire from the headlight harness to the remote out jack on the amp block was my issue. Big thanks to Ultra for all the help (including this last little hiccup)....system sounds great (haven't even put the polyfil or fairing back on yet)!

First off I didn't realize it was you that made the comments about the grease in the neck heating up and causing steering failure with no facts to back it up.

Secondly there were actually a couple of others on another forum that stated they read on this forum the same thing and again with no facts to back it up.

I mean think about this statement for a sec.. Do you realize how much current it would actually take to heat that bearing grease up to a point where it would liquefy and seep from seals.

The PBR300x4, well all I can say there is search here, search other forums including car audio forums and you will find PLENTY of facts to back up my distaste for the PBR300x4. Couple that with my own experiences with 3 different PBR300x4 amps that all crapped out either from heat or gain control issues. It's a bad amp, that's all there is to it. The PBR300x2, totally different beast altogether. They are both BR technology so I don't know for a fact what causes the heat issues with them but they are there and the issues are well known.

I will not post something that is not fact and in one specific case I remember calling someone out on a post they made stating that he "heard" the PBR300x4 getting so hot it melted the outer fairing cap. No way that happened unless there were other underlying circumstances.

Dude if I did something to **** you off, I apologize. Just here to help people. Same as you..

Make sure to set your gains before you button everything back up. That's the final piece along with the polyfil before you're done.

Set the gains (mine seemed to be best a little north of 9 o'clock) and got everything buttoned back up. For those reading this that are installing in the near future, I would take a picture of the wiring in the fairing once you take it off...just to have a picture of how it's routed. I had to mess with mine for a little while before I got the mounting holes to line up.

The system is LOUD...sounds great! The OL thought Kid Rock was playing live in our garage lol. Thanks again to Ultra and everyone else that helped out. I couldn't have done it without the help. That being said, if I can do this install, anyone can. Just don't be in a rush and do it right the first time.

Okay, hopefully my last question. I used the instructions Ultra suggested (https://www.hdforums.com/forum/audio...amp-setup.html) using a CD to set the gains. When listening to a CD the system sound amazing. However, when I switch it to FM, it gets distorted at a low volume. What did I do wrong?

digital vs analog signals. What does it sound like with a CD in there?

Not sure if digital vs analog was a question or a statement. The CD rocks. I can crank it 3/4 of the way or more and it sounds great...FM not so much. Is that just the nature of the beast?
