Default Noob questions

Okay, I know nothing of audio but here's what I am planning.
I am putting amp, 6.5 speakers in fairing and another set of 6.5's in CVO lowers on a 2012 street glide.
I have ordered a ss pn4.520d, mount , 2 sets of db 651 polks, cycle sounds adapters, Cvo lower pods.
I realize now I should have ordered mm651 speakers. Is there allot of difference between the two? Should I get the mm 651s?
I want to do it right the first time, any advice and pitfall avoidance appreciated.

Thanks to all of you on this forum for educating me. I have gotten a wealth of information from you.

The db651's are a 4ohm speaker and the mm651's are a 2ohm speaker. The SS amp pushes 2ohmX4. UltraNutZ will be a better much source to fill you in on the amp/speaker combo. I just installed the SS with the mm651's and they sound great.

Couple of things here MeanFarmer.

The SGs do not have the 35 pin harness that plugs into the back of the radio so if you want to use both front and rear outputs on the radio to the front and rear inputs on the amp, you'll have to purchase a connector "kit" to assemble and plug into the back of the radio giving you your rear outputs.

Now onto another thing with the SGs is that the fader (allows fading front to rear of sound) is not activated. You'll have to take your bike to the dealer and let them flash that feature into your radio. I really suggest you do this with a fairing/lower combination of speaker setup because you'll want to be able to fade down to the lowers a little to get more sound from them at speeds.

As for the speakers themselves. If you don't want to fool with the fader or the rear outputs of the radio but instead simply use the front outputs of the radio to drive the amp (which is fine), then keep the speakers you have ordered and I'll walk you through installing it a certain way, 2 channel mode.

If you do want the fader control and the rear outputs of the radio, then yes you'll want to return the speakers if you can and get the MM651s as they are more "matching" to the amp in 4 channel mode.

Forgive me here, I'm not sure of some of the items here ultranutz.
Fader would be good.
Front and rear outputs, is this in relation to front and rear speakers? I don't have plans on tour Pak speakers just the four. Now does this mean the front outputs go to one set and the rear outputs go to the lowers?
The 35 pin connector, is this something I have to get from Harley? Do I need to modify it to hook it to the amp? I am assuming the flash can be done after install?
I will switch to the mm 651 speakers which is what I originally intended before my brain fart. Lol
Thank you, I really don't know audio but I want to learn. This will be a long process as I will be held up a while waiting for my painted inner to arrive.

MeanFarmer. As discussed on the phone here is the link for the connector, seal pins, and crimp terminals.

You'll need
35 Pin connector
female crimp terminals
seal pins you'll need 31 of these to plug up the remaining holes in the connector.

This is a note for everyone else using a 4 channel amp setup to drive 4 speakers and maintain fader controls on a stock radio that does NOT have the larger 35 pin connector harness on the back of it.

This is only necessary for HD models that do not include a rear speaker connector on the stock radio. This is to be used in conjunction with enabling the fader control by the dealer on your stock radio.

If you're not going to enable the fader control, I wouldn't go through the expense of this but instead simply use a SCOSCHE LOC80 or PAC SNI-35 to convert the front speaker wire outputs of the radio to RCA jacks then "Y" the RCAs to both front and rear inputs on the amp.

The actual HD part numbers are as follows if you prefer to order from HD (thank you FXD2003Rider for the part #s) :
35 Pin Connector - 72384-06BK
Female Crimp Terminals - 72381-98
Seal Pins - 72397-98
