So far the 8 speakers that you listed sounds like a solid system. Would adding the tweeters and lids improve on the sound quality? I usually ride without the tour pak.
  • I agree with GP on the tweeters.
  • The lids IMO make a big difference as I've come to experience just recently on my own and GP can attest to with his saddlebag speaker setup as well.
  • Your budget is a big factor here as there are many ways to go.
The lids if you go that route can easily eat up 25% of your budget by the time you get them painted.

Ok. Say I go with the setup you refered to earlier UN, the 8 speakers. If I was going to add the lids later, what should I need as far as amps? I like your thinking GP!!

well I haven't really referred to anything yet, just trying to get accurate information as to what you want to do in order to give you an educated suggestion.

I'll make the assumption that you're going with 8 speaker setup and keeping the stock head unit with my suggestion below; Both sets of Biketronics speakers are actually made specifically for BT by HAT (Hybrid Audio Technologies) which is a very well-known leader in speaker technology

  • Biketronics Titan II 6.5" fairing and lowers - $250 each pair
  • Polk Audio MM651 rear tour pak pods - $140
  • Biketronics 6x9s - $ (you'll need to call BT for special pricing without the kit)
  • Lids and fairing adapter rings - Dragonfly Cycle Concepts. PM dragonfly2000 (kevin) here on the forum. I think they provide a 10% discount to forum members to boot.
  • The amps I would suggest to drive this system would be either the Alpine PDX-F6 if you don't mind giving up the space for it or the Soundstream PN4.520D if you want to install the amp inside the fairing. Both are great amps, both are Class D which is what you want on a motorcycle (less current draw from your electrical system) and both have plenty of power

I talked to a rep at Biketronics and he suggested the BT4180 amp. What is your opinion of that amp. After talking to him he said that they could possibly give me a lower cost for buying the speakers and amp at the same time. I like the lifetime warrenty and the fact that the amp and speakers (except for the Polks) are all from the same manufacturer. I just have to evaluate if the higher price is worth it.

You might want to consider just doing the fairing and lowers first. I just did this using the BT2180 amp and Titan II in both locations. I used the new 7 inch ones in the fairing. The sound is so loud that I can't imagine needing more and has decent bass response at least in garage.

New 7" speakers? Don't see those on BT's web site.

They are not listed on the web site. You need to talk with Bill and order them directly through him. They are a brand new model. I put the 7's in the fairing and the 6.5's in the lowers. The BT2180 sees a 2ohm load and is putting out about 125watts x4 so about 500watts RMS. Its is a very powerful setup.

Thanks...and I suspect there's no interference with the FM reception, right?
