Default What to do with my audio

Greetings!

I’m looking for some ideas for my audio system. 07 StreetGlide with stock HK audio unit, Arc Audio 125.2 mini amp and 6.5” hertz speakers in the batwing. It sounds pretty good but I THINK I want more. Toying with adding saddlebag speakers or speakers in lowers that I don’t have. Looking for the best bang for the buck. DO I need a different amp? Different head unit? What speakers? What location for the speakers? Anything and everything you think I need to know, including sources for the product will be greatly appreciated, What about tweeters? HD tweeter bar or other similar unit? What about tweeters installed directly in the inner fairing?

Thanks!, and here’s to a safe riding season!

If u read past post you will find tons of info on what works with what, head units, connectors, amps, etc.. In my case I found I could not add more speakers cuz it would burn up amp in head unit. A friend of mine with same set up as yours did ok by adding a amp and 6x9s on saddle bag lids (all Kicker), hooked to head unit by rca cable. Easy install.

I suggest you search and read about the many different systems on here.

From mild upgrades, to over the top systems like mine.......I'm sure you'll find a comfort zone somewhere in the middle.

Two important things: How much do you want to spend, and how much space are you willing to give up ??

Happy reading !!

As mentioned above, I would start with replacing the HK with something better. That will be your best bang for the buck. Next, better speakers for the fairing. JL Audio or Focal would be my recommendation.

I disagree......best bang for your buck, and best performance improvement is in the amp. Many guys have decent systems with the stock head unit.

Amps and speakers are the biggest improvement ... However, the factory radio can be a net profit, by selling on EBAY, then purchasing a radio & retro kit. Depending on your new head unit, you could pocket $150 bucks !!

and to further this... IMO your best bang for the buck regardless of the fact that saddlebag speakers will be larger in size, will be the addition of lower speakers. The more in your face sound you have coming at you, the happier you'll be. Then from there you work on the "fill" which is what you decide to put behind you.

What a loaded question!!! Many opinions, most have their good points. I did just the lowers with an amp and four 6.5 speakers last year. This year I pulled that system (Rockford Fosgate PBR300X4 and four RF T165 speakers) and got more bang for my buck than I expected. I installed a SoundStream 4.520D amp, four Polk DXi650 (fairing and lowers run in parallel) and two Polk DXi690 in Cycle Sounds saddle bag lids. This by far was the BEST audio upgrade I've done yet! I can ride down the road with the volume below the half mark and hear my system perfectly. Everyone who hears it can't believe the clarity and punch this system puts out.

Like I said, lots of opinions, search and find what fits your needs and enjoy some good tunes.

When I said best bang for your buck, I was considering that he already had an aftermarket amplifier. I agree that this is crucial. But I also think that everything starts at the source. Garbage in......

The D/A converters in the HK are lacking, and using a file storage device with anything but USB out will get you only convenience and NOT sound quality.
