I recently bought (and installed) a Biketronics BT-1005 retro kit on my bike. A VERY short time later I realized that the radio I installed was not going to work for me. Anyways, in the BT kit there was a plastic protective sheet that is used to cover the top of the radio to protect it from the elements. OK, obviously this thing is stuck like crazy to the old radio. Any ideas where I can get something that will work in its place? Thanks for your help.
nice find sl33py.. the hawg-wired install kits do not come with this stuff and I feel it's essential.
Happy to help where i can. Speaking with Bill yesterday about this and he told me it was just the top o' the line rock chip guard w/ 3M adhesive. Nothing magical - vinyl w/ good stick!
You could use just about anything in a pinch. Packing tape works too! Heat cycles and lasting, plus ability to take some abuse if banged around (create a hole to leak water into radio=bad) - that's where rock chip guard type is handy.
I'm sure a 1/4"-1/2" overlap in the center would not hurt, and as long as it wrapped over the edges the 6x48 would work while leaving you with a ton extra for other "bits" you don't want chipped. Thinking maybe the saddlebags, front and rear fender ends maybe... lots of options!
fyi, I emailed Biketronics to find out how I could get a replacement and they took it upon themselves to send me one free of charge. That IS over and above. Bravo Biketronics!!!
