What do you guys set yours at? I noticed after my Polk/RF install while riding down the highway, mine was turned off and the sound was not nearly as loud as it should be. I turned it up to four bars and it was like hitting the loud button on some head units. It seems that with it set that high I cannot run at full volume (as set with gain in garage). Is it safe to run at four bars?
I have always left it at two bars, I guess I turned it off while setting my gain with everything else set flat. Does AVC have the ability to override the max volume I set while adjusting gain? I never run at my predetermined max unless using XM or FM.
Will it override gain settings, no. The AVC will turn your head unit volume up and down at different speeds and could surpass what you set the head unit at for max distortion before you backed it down to adjust your gains.

What is it with AVC that people don't like? It's a great feature, but it must be used correctly. My AVC is set at three bars, and works just fine for my purposes. I set my HU volume when at speed for the loudest I would want it, and when I pull up to a red light the volume drops so my eardrums aren't blasted out, perfect. When I get moving again the volume rises until it's back to where I set it at speed. If someone foolishly set their AVC at max and cranked their tunes to max in the driveway then yes, you might be in for a surprise when you hit 70mph, as your speakers self-destruct!
