Good morning to all.

Regarding last: I do not have the comm option.

I think I'll by the cheap $30 iPod Shuffle and see if a new iPod fixes it. If it does, I'll go out and buy the Nano at $150. Thirty bucks for diagnostic expense isn't such a bad thing. Unless of course someone can offer better advice.

Just a thought, but it sounds like the battery is near dead on the iPod. Not being familiar with the interface setup, are you sure it's charging the iPod 100% properly?

Well, it SHOULD be, but I'm not sure. I say it should be because it's always plugged in but perhaps it's not charging when the radio isn't on. So the battery level may be low. On the flip side of this is, when the sound cuts out I leave it on, volume down, (not that there's any volume at all) because at one point I was wondering if it was indeed a battery level issue. After lots of time of riding, the battery should charge back up and the problem goes away. Not the case. I have the iPod tucked away in the cowl compartment. I'll go take a quick peek. (It's not that easy to get in and out which is why I didn't know the straight up answer. Now I just have to know.

Disconnect the iPod and bring it in the house. First thing, try to play it with earbuds, before charging it. If it plays fine, then at least you're moving in the direction of eliminating it, as the problem. If it keeps cutting out, then you need to do the following:

Then connect it to a wall charger, or a computer. But remember, the computer has to be powered up, to supply power to the USB port, in order to charge the iPod. Once you do this, then let it charge up 100%. If it charges up 100%, AND it plays perfectly through earbuds, then you know the problem isn't with the iPod.

What cowl compartment are you referring to? What bike model and year do you have?

As a second thought, I vaguely remember reading somewhere that you have to have the AVC feature on the HK/HD radios turned all the way down when using the iPod interface... or maybe that was with aftermarket amps... I don't recall exactly.

I'll add a couple of things to check as well

The software and firmware versions of the ipod interface. The first one I ever bought had all kinds of weird issues and I was about to pull it out and return it only to find that I didn't have the latest software and firmware for the device. Here's a link to check that out.

Another thing would be to check the connections at the back of the radio where the iPod overlay harness plugs into the 35 pin connector. Lots of time those pins are not inserted properly.

The bike is an 11 Road Glide. The iPod is in the right cowl storage compartment. I brought it in to check the battery. Fully charged. I then checked every song to make sure the files weren't corrupt. All checked out. Put it back in the bike and it seems fine however this is typical. It seems to need road time before it fails. Have to run to my mothers house because, well, look at the calendar... Seat time later this afternoon. The connections in the cowl itself is next or try the cheap iPod (Shuffle) diagnostic.

this statement leads me back to that 35 pin connector and the couple of pins that need to be inserted into that connector for iPod integration. Need to check those pins. Pull firmly on each one of them, if it comes out, it's not seated properly.

Things change. Septic system failed. Ouch. Money just flew out the window or better said, down the toilet. I don't think I'll be doing any fixes or upgrades now.
