not really familiar with them but the specs are pretty respectable so I don't think you'd go wrong with it. Kinda pricey though @ $369.

warning: rant...

F&$#ING viglink! I hate redirects like that. And work blocks it so all i get is XML "access denied".

Ok rant over.

Massive Audio BX2/BX4 - which? (can't see what you linked to, so guessing one of those two).

I just bought a MA BX2 to try. For my brother's bike. Not sure when i will get to install it yet (i'm slow, and *really* busy lately). BUT i can grab some pics one night and share here.

I politely grilled Gone Riding on his EMI testing so i can try to reproduce and see if it has the same issue as the SS amps. Because if it doesn't - it's an enticing option.

FYI - the previous (and similar form factor) line "NX" got bombed for over-rating their amps. Not producing the RMS claimed. For a somewhat "premium" model/price - (not a Lanzar or Pyle - not knocking those... they are what they are), you'd expect real world performance to match the specs.

I've found the BX2 online for some great pricing (~$220-240'ish), and if willing to give up warranty (another possible negative of Massive - picky warranty), maybe a bit less.

BUT if it's able to put out 170-190 RMS to MM651's on my brother's bike - it'll be worth the extra $, especially if no FM issues!!

I'll definitely let you know. Maybe start a(nother) build thread w/ more pics.

HTH & GL!

For the price, the Sound Stream is by far a better deal than the BX4...................More power ,.........less money...........

Mostly agree!

On paper (yeah yeah i know...)
SS PN4.520D:
  • 100W RMS x 4 @ 4 Ohms
  • 130W RMS x 4 @ 2 Ohms
  • 160W RMS x 2 [Bridged] @ 4 Ohm
Dimensions:
9" L x 4.75" W x 1.5" H
The Massive BX4:
  • 120W RMS x 4 @ 4 Ohms
  • 240W RMS x 4 @ 2 Ohms
  • 480W RMS x 2 [Bridged] @ 4 Ohm
Dimensions:
8-5/16" L x5" W x 1-5/8" H
So... more power - MAYBE. I fully recognize that the previous Massive NX model line was overrated (less output than claimed RMS)

Less $ - definitely! Cheapest i've found the BX2/BX4 is still more than the SS 520D

BUT if it doesn't have the FM issue, plus puts out more power RMS, and is bridgeable, AND smaller?!? That may be worth the extra $!!

I have the BX2 for my brother's install and look forward to hearing it, and testing if it impacts FM.

I'm not sure how someone can easily measure true RMS w/o swapping amps side by side and seeing/measuring volume (in dB) for each.

And whether or not the MM651's or similar can even handle the output if at the claimed RMS?! Bridged @ 480W RMS 2 ch seems insane! Can only imagine it would chew through speakers...

Might be a great option to the SS and RF300x2!

HTH - GL!

bridging is not an issue, just don't do it. If you find yourself needing to bridge an amp for more power, you need another amp that HAS more power. I know I talked about bridging this 4.520D a while back but with the issues it presented I soon realized it was a bad idea to even bring it up. I understand a couple of folks here have succesfully bridged the 4.320 amp without issue.

The FM issue; I'm afraid to say that most if not all Class D amps could possibly present this challenge. And again I point out the fact that it doesn't happen to all, just some.

Sl33py I still would like to hear back from you as to what you think of the MA BX2 once you get it installed on your brother's bike. Might be a good option for those who want to spend a little extra. The thing that concerns me with the BX4 is the 1-5/8" height. That may not seem like a big deal but considering 1.5" barely fits, it might wind up being a deal-breaker especially for those running stock head units.

Good points UN (as usual).

Class D and FM reception - that's really the rub. You will know if you have it, but not having it doesn't mean another person won't! I personally paid a premium as Biketronics stated theirs did not interfere. Following that other thread on the 2180 that seems to have some impact to FM!

I just took the amp to my brother last night and dropped it off. Hopefully will get it installed in next week or two. Maybe one night after work if we can line up our schedules. I am totally jammed for time and getting time with my bike may take back seat to getting his done!

I did take a couple quick cell phone pics of it on his bench, which i may use in a seperate thread for the Massive BX2. I definitely want to measure FM reception and any impact w/ it, and while i can't compare loudness against another amp (besides my own when finished), i do have an inexpensive SPL meter i want to see before/after measurements for both his and mine.

I understand your concern on height and he will be using a stock HU (unlike mine being a Kenwood), so i can grab pics specifically to see show that.

Oddly the form factor is SUPER close to the SS amps. Also same mounting tabs/style. So i took some close up shots (again w/ crummy cell camera), and would appreciate you comparing with the SS amp? Wonder if it's basically a re-branded SS? That would suck, but was willing to take a gamble w/ an alternative!

I talked with my brother about it, and considering he is getting a free stereo upgrade, he's willing to lose FM (worst case) since he uses aux in and pandora off his phone 99% of the time.

I'll start that separate thread shortly and appreciate you looking it over to see if it's just too close to be coincidence!

HTH!
