Was wondering when he would post this. I stopped and looked at this bike a few days ago. When I first looked at it I thought "here's a bike I could pick up cheap and chop it up some". The reason I thoght this is cause the bike is rough. Only thing between it and basket case status is that he says it runs. (he wasn't around so I didn't get to start it) The whole frame is pitted, you can tell its been scraped down and Krylon'd. I called him and asked what he was asking for it he said $4500. I wasn't sure I heard him correctly so I asked him if he could repeat it. He got all pissy and started to explain to me how it was an all original '71. Apparently he has had some negative feedback about his asking price and was easily irritated about it. I never give people a hard time about asking prices, no matter how crazy it seems. And didn't do so this time. Just said "Ok Thanks" and hung up. If I get a chance I'll go by where he has it sitting and get some pics of it to post.
I found my bike from an add on Craig's List. '09 XL1200N w/ 114 miles bought in Sept of '09 for 2000 under list of new. Definitely have to wade through some crap to find the good stuff.
I check Craig's List all the time. You can come across some nice photos of rarely seen bikes and an occasional really good deal - like maybe a used sissy bar to powder coat or wheels for your work truck's winter tires.
