Default Componet Speakers

I've been giving some thought to 6 1/2" component speakers. Has any one installed them on a batwing faring. Which brand would handle the weather better. Where did you mount the tweeters?

you have many options and the componenets vs coaxial type speakers are simply a matter of preference.

A good comparison would be the Polk MM651 vs the Polk MM6501. The 6501s handle a tad bit more power because they are seperates but everything else is the same. My understanding is the tweeters for the 6501s fit perfectly into the guage holes if you're wanting to go that route. Also Hogtunes makes a good tweeter pod for the batwings fairings.

Again, it's simply a matter of preference. If this were a car it would really matter for sound staging and seperation but on a bike, above 30MPH and it really doesn't matter.

Another option is the BT7P1's - 7.1" Titan II's from Biketronics. Chat with Bill and see if they can give you the set that isn't soldered on, or remove the solder and move the tweeter (removable by design from HAT). But please check with Bill @ BT if that voids the awesome lifetime warranty - that wouldn't be good.

Bit more $ than the MM651's and MM6501's (250 vs 130 and 200 respectively).

I'm not sure if they are a fit for the gauge holes next to the HU, but thought about moving them to the hogtunes tweeter pod if needed. Honestly though - i doubt i'll go to the effort. So little is in the way (unlike in a car where your leg is usually blocking) and much beyond traffic commute speeds i don't think it'll be noticeable.

my .02 and GL!

I sorta did that. I did coaxial (MM651) in the standard batwing speaker hole, BUT I did component (MM6501) in my lowers and mounted the tweets in gauge holes. So, yes, you can do what you are asking, but I wouldn't recommend it. I did what I did to get an EXTRA set of tweeters closer to my ears in the air pocket.

The Polk MM's are Marine certified.

Yeah, that's what UN says too. Still waiting on a nice day to find out how bright it is. With stock I found voices were the hardest to hear, and in my experience highs are most directional and delicate, so it seemed logical to me to put more in my face. I also ride with ear plugs so that should be factored in too.

Hey I have a set of the gauge plugs from harley that was gonna use for my tweeters but the mm6501's fit with a little modding to the claw style clamp ( just bend the tabs so they hit the fairing hole) so if anyone needs them for other tweeters just shoot me a pm and ill drop them in the mail for free. It's not worth anyone paying me for them they were only like five bucks. So just give me a shout.

I have JL C2 componets in my lowers and lower gauge holes along with Polks in the fairing. I'm half deaf, so not too bright for me. In fact I had C2s in the fairing too but one blew, so went with Polks. Lost some sound/volume and highs with Polks imho.
