MM651 "fail pics"
I recently made a trip from Marietta Georgia to Ft. Worth Texas. 865 miles covered in 14.5 hours. The audio system (stock head unit, SS amp, and 4 Polk MM651's [2 in the fairing, 2 in the lowers]) has performed flawlessly since installed in February, I've been very impressed with the "bang for the buck."
While cruising on the slab, I heard a "pop" followed by clicking. Immediately turn down the stereo, and it goes away. Resumes when I turn it back up. "Great" I thought to myself, it's a long ride back & I'll be without tunes.
When I arrived in Texas, I found that the problem was with the lower speakers. Pm'd Nutz and asked if I could just fade to the uppers while taking it "easy" with the volume for the ride back home. He said okay, and that's how it happened.
Upon returning home, I took these pics...

Cover removed...

Notice the speaker on the left. Even the cone for the speaker is "canted." The poly fill had to be pulled away from the back... it's been EXTREAMLY WARM!

Now for the lesson in all of this...
These were ordered through Amazon. Sent an email to the supplier "HASSEL FREE", requesting information on where to send these for replacements. Response was that the "warranty period" had expired. WTH? I explained that I was under the impression that they had a one year warranty. They responded that I needed to take that issue up with Polk. (which I haven't done yet)
When ordering through Amazon, make DAYUM SURE that whoever is sending you the equipment is an AUTHORIZED BY THE MANUFACTURER!
I'm not frustrated with Polk, and the system absolutely ROCKS. However, if Polk can't help me with my situation... I'll end up replacing these with LIFETIME REPLACEMENT products.
My lesson has been learned... hope that maybe somebody else gets a little knowledge outta this.

So, I'm really trying to figure out how the entire basket wound up like that. That would take a LOT of heat and force.
