ive been looking at upgrading to put 6x9 in the lids. i have the harley upgraded speakers in the fairing currently. i have an old mbquart amp i had bought for my car few years back i was gonna use it to run a couple sets of kicker component sets. thinking of using that to power the speakers in the lids. you guys think that will work or is bike amps different and smaller?? im new to all this and looking for some advice. i hear everyone has polk and seem to be pleased. im fine with keeping stock head unit but looking at upgrading the fairing speakers and something in bags for lil more sound. shoot me some advice.
fairing speakers - BT7P1 7.1" from Biketronics
lids - check out the new Hogtunes lids as they allow direct bolt in of pretty much any 6x9 and doesn't require adapters
lid speakers - Pioneer TS-D6902R
Dang 12 lbs! Impressive specs though. Because this is a class A/B amp I personally wouldn't use it on a bike. Draws a lot of current and without proper air-flow will get very hot
if you're looking at an amp to drive only the rear lids, the SS PN2.350D is a perfect candidate for that.
If you're looking for an amp to drive all 4 speakers, then I'd suggest the PN4.520D. Both will fit inside your fairing on top of the head unit without an issue.
If you listen to FM a lot, we might have to go a different route though as Class D amps are known to cause FM interference
I listen to fm some but iPod mostly been looking at the JM iPod hookup much cheaper then the Harley one. I'd like to get an amp to run em all. What brands of speakers do u suggest or just the ones I mention. I am pretty pleased with the Harley booms they have been good to me but a lil louder fairing speakers wouldn't hurt my feelings lol
Ok cool thanks I was thinking the same thing with the weight. What's a good system to use that u suggest?
not the weight so much, but the current draw off your electrical system. These newer bikes only put out about 55A total and your electrical system stock, will draw about 20 of that so you have to be careful.. This is why class D amps are so popular.. very little current draw but the downside is FM interference.

you already have the speakers so you might as well give them a try. Maybe they'll sound a bit better with some power behind them and save you a few $. If you're simply wanting to change speakers, see my original post above.
