This morning on my way in to work my right speaker went dead. I plan to do some trouble shooting when I get home but wanted to get some input before I started. The speakers are running off just the deck and are 4 ohm speakers. They are being under powered so I'm assuming they should not be blown due to distortion. I noticed the stock speakers were 2 ohms, could that be the issue? Any thoughts on what it could be?
well on the contrary.. and if this is a 06 or newer bike (man I sure wish the mods would required bikes to be in signature lines) :-)
then using a 4 ohm speaker requires the head unit to be turned to a higher volume to achieve same results as using a 2 ohm speaker. This causes distortion to be introduced. Normally there are only a couple of things that will kill a speaker, distortion and over-powering them.
You also don't mention what speaker it is. You might get lucky and pull the fairing to find it simply disconnected.
