HD Boom Audio random low volume and distorted output problem?
Hey guys I had a set of Boom Audio speakers put onto my Road King a few weeks ago and they are exhibiting some strange behavior.
Occasionally the volume is REALLY low and the music sounds VERY distorted. This doesn't appear to happen often and SEEMS to happen more when it's warmer out. As in, it doesn't really happen at night from what I can recall.
The last time I had the issue (this past weekend in Wildwood for Bike Week) I reached down and touched the AMP and it didn't feel warm at all.
Usually if I leave the speakers off for a period of time (by turning them off on the handlebar switch) when I turn them back on they work again. Have to wait a period of time though. Turning them off and back on does not correct the issue.
Anyway, the reason I am concerned is I had to pay to have them installed and from what I gather, they are not easy to troubleshoot and you can't just swap out the amp or one speaker since everything is hard wired together.
Anyone else have problems similar to mine? Tried searching this forum first but didn't find anything.
i would say it was your amp, don't think just speaker could act like that unless the wired wrong. everthing just plugs together. i don;t think you could wire it wrong.
Yeah and because the way it is made I'd have to cut wires to replace one piece or take it all off then have it re-installed. There are obvious labor costs associated with that. Kinda disappointed considering how much these things go for.
Sorry these are the HD Boom speakers that mount on your handlebars and have a small 40 Watt amp that gets mounted to the bike. The source is an iPhone 5 on a RAM X mount.
is there no warranty remaining on the product? As long as you bought from Authorized HD dealer and your local dealership installed it, it should ALL be covered under warranty including the labor to replace the system.
I agree with the above statement that the amp is probably toasted.
There is a warranty. I did NOT get it installed at a Harley shop. The unit is not "modular" so can't just replace the AMP without cutting the wires. Not really happy with that considering the price and starting to think I should have gone a different route.
Oh well. Thanks for the feedback everyone. Much appreciated.
