. I have a 14 SGS and would like a recommendation on good replacement speakers for the front fairing.
I have the same question . except I already have the Magic Box and PBR300 amp (I also have a J&M JAMP250) . I'm only planning to run fairing speakers.
Thanks in advance
2014 Street Glide Special
Stock BOOM Audio front speakers
J & M AMP (I think it is called the 4-channel one specifically for the front and rear speaker setup)
Nothing was done at the dealership with the stereo system whatsoever after everything was installed. I am taking it there should have been? To be honest; they aren't the sharpest so if I need to have them do something, I need to tell them EXACTLY what needs to be done. Thanks so much for your time; I really do appreciate it.
If you are using the J&M amp with only two (right & Left) inputs, the amp is splitting to four speakers and therefor there won't be a fade control. John from J&M can answer this as well but I think I am correct. J&M amps do not require, actually don't recommend a dealer flash. Dealer Flash for a amp and 4 speaker set-up is the only way to get head unit to have fade control. But in doing this, it better be a BOOM AMP or as others have found an aftermarket amp the fade control will not work, the flash moves the fade control from the radio to the amp in the BOOM system.
Do the rear speakers work at all?

This is incorrect. I've seen the Harley flash files myself, in person on the dealers digital tech laptop. Keep in mind the Ultra Classic/Ultra Limited come stock with 4 speakers and no amp and have fade control within the radio. The SG/SGS come stock with 2 speakers and no fade control. When you add two speakers into the system you HAVE to flash the radio to either 4 speakers and no amp, or 4 speakers with an amp. While J&M doesn't recommend a HD flash "with amp" you still need to have it flashed to get fade control. After that the DSP program inside the J&M amp takes over in place of the Harley internal one.

Monty, I too have seen the digital tech, worked with it myself along side of, and have spoken with a few of the well informed techs. You are correct that with
an Ultra Classic and Limited they have no amp yet have rear fade control, but when an amp flash is selected it moves that function to the amp and without the BOOM amp it will not work, that is why when using an aftermarket amp the fade control no longer works. Correct me if I am wrong, that is the reason you went back to a non flash because you lost your rear speakers.. I am just going on what I was informed of and what others here are experiencing.

The ultra, limited and SGS all have the same radio. They are all capable of fade. It's just the programming therein that needs to be updated. We're not talking about an amp flash here. We're talking about just flashing the stereo to tell it you are now running 4 speakers and to enable fade.
My setup - RF PBR300x2, Inifity Kappas, Magic Box, Flashed for 2 speakers 1 amp.
The magic box definitely inproved the sound quality in my opinion. I took it for a test ride and could hear more "layers" of the music that were lost in the screeching treble before.
I'm assuming due to the low level inputs being used now (the RCA's on the magic box), I was able to turn my gain all the way up. I'm talking maxed out. Amp in AP. I only get distortion at the last two bars of volume, depending on the song.
This is version 3.0 for me and each step gets a little better.
The major problem we still have are these damn speaker pods. I'm anxiouly waiting for biketronics to release their fairing support brackets that will allow removal of the pods. I just hope they sell the brackets separately so different speakers can be experimented with.
