Default Soundstream Tarantula vs Picasso

Hi guys,

About 45 days ago I purchased two amps from the soundstream Picasso nano line (PN2.350D and PN4.520D). I didn't notice at the time but now I see soundstream has slightly more powerful nano amps in the tarantula nano series.

I have not installed either of the previously purchased amps yet so wondering if the tarantula line is a better class of amp in comparison to the Picasso amp? As for as watts go it appears to be a no brainer but I wanted to hear from someone smarter than me in this area to avoid making a mistake. It does appear to be a larger footprint that the Picasso so more space eaten up in the bags.

If the tarantula series is better then I am considering selling my Picasso and going with the (1) tn4.900D and (1) tn2.600D. I am installing the following on a '13 SERK with the following speakers.

2 HAT 6.5 in the lower fairing
2 Pioneer D6902R in the CVO lids
2 Pioneer D6902R inside the saddlebags
Loosely considering a detachable fairing from dragonfly to add two additional speakers but I have to put more $$ in the piggybank for that!

Thanks again for your time and expertise.

Both series are Class D amps, so the tech is the same; low current draw which will work well on the bike.

However, for FAIRING bikes, the main issue is the physical size of the Tarantula series (even the Nano line) vs. the Picasso Nano: The PN4.520D measures 1.5"H X 4.75 W X 9"L, while the Tarantula Nano TN4.900D measures 1.75"H X 6.625"W X 8.875"L. That extra two inches of width would make mounting under the fairing more difficult, as the way UltraNutz mounts it (which is the way I did mine) comes close to touching the outer fairing while also being right against the gauge cups (speedo/tach). The dimensions differences are negligible if you're not stuffing it on top of the radio in a fairing though.

One other design issue for fairings on the Tarantula is the placement of the front channel RCA jacks - each set is against the outer frame of the amp (flanking the control panel) which would put the Front channel RCAs DEEP into the fairing next to the Tach/inner fairing brace. Getting that connected might be fun!

Important note: if you're not running low-level inputs (the RCA jacks from an aftermarket unit, unless you had your HK modified to have pre-amp outputs), the Tarantula does NOT appear to have speaker-level input (hi-level input) connectors like the Picasso does.

If you could find it for sale, it's only $25 more than the Picasso Nano...if you found a place with a great return policy, I SUPPOSE you could try to shoe-horn it in the fairing, but the width and the RCA jack connection point might prove difficult unless you're mounting the amps in saddlebags/tour paks.

Sorry man I missed this one.

The tarantula tn4.900D is what I'm running and obviously by specs alone it's a much better amp not only power-wise but SNR/Sensitivity also.

if you're striving for bass, you could save yourself some bag space by using a TN5.950D

Wire the 2 internal bag speakers in parallel and connect to sub channel at 2ohms (430w) then use the front outputs for your lowers (85w) and rear outputs for your lids (85w). Just a thought...

Great info. Thanks all for sharing your time and expertise. Very much appreciate it.

I dont have the fairing at this time as GP suggested. Ill be using the an iPhone in the bag at least until I can sneak up on one of those dragonfly detachable fairing.

Looking into the TN5.950D now UN
