Default High Output Stator

I was looking in the 2014 HD parts catalog and noticed a high output charging system.

The Harley-Davidson® High Output Charging System is engineered to provide abundant power for all your accessories – at any engine speed
With 54 amps of output at 4,000 rpm, accessories will operate at their peak performance - no more dimming lights, reduced stereo volume or under-performing heated gear
The system-matched stator, rotor and voltage regulator work together to meet the current demands of your bike
At low RPM, the motorcycle's charging system delivers the least amount of current, and relies on the battery to make up the difference
The High Output Charging System delivers a 30% increase in output at 1000 RPM, which translate to an additional 6 amps of current (or about 78 watts of power)
Maximum power output of charging system is 793 Watts (based on constant voltage cold data)
Ideal for heated clothing, heated seats and grips, decorative lighting, and high-output audio systems place added demand on the motorcycle's charging system
Complete kit includes high performance rotor, stator, voltage regulator and all gaskets and hardware required for installation

My stereo system consists of the following:
Sony M310 head unit
BT4180 amp
BT7P1's for the fairing
Titan II 6.5's for the lowers
BT479 6X9's for the saddlebags
MM651's for the rear pods

From what I can determine my 2012 Ultra Limited has a 50 amp system. I was wondering how much of a difference the newer charging system would make. Right now I have to control the volume while riding and turn it down at idle so as not to exceed the charging system. I would like to add another amp and sub in my tour pak. Just wondering if this would be worth the $490? Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, how can you tell you are exceeding your charging system?

When I have the volume up too high the volt meter starts dropping from a consistent 14 volts to under 11 volts and the system cannot keep up with the demand. Once I turn the volume down a little the volt meter goes back up to a consistent 14 volts.

Sounds like a bad battery. I run WAY more watts than you're pushing , and never have a problem, with a stock charging system on a '06 Ultra.

How old is your battery ?? Bass is what REALLY kills the current, and you aren't pushing that much bass.

I'd get a load check on the battery. Let us know how you make out !!

Do you keep your bike on a tender when not riding ??

Running the same battery that was in it when I bought the bike. Don't have it on a tender when not riding it, unless it's going to be over a couple of weeks. I have a buddy that has the same issue with his 12 Streetglide. I know he has a new battery. We both had to have the stator and votage regulator replaced on our bikes due to the issues from the factory last summer. I was thinking about getting a new battery anyways. I was going to try to resolve the issue before I get it on the road for the year but I guess I'll have to wait to find out if a new battery fixes it.
