I just got my Hogtunes lids back from the painter and have a couple of questions for those of you that have previously installed these lids.
1. How did the adhesive on the rubber gasket/seal around the lids or on the striker plates hold up? I heard a suggestion somewhere to use the stock Harley striker plates.
2. Did you drill the bag and use the grommet installed in the kit or did you ream out a small section in the top of the bag and run the wires between the bag and lid?
3. Did you run the wires as described in the instructions (down, back, front, up and out) or did you find a more direct route? Those with liners what did you use to attach to the liners. velcro straps?
Thanks to all that have graciously shared their expertise and experiences.
Adhesive on gasket holds up fine but not on wear plates. I drilled the bag with a 3/4" hole saw on blue painter's tape and used the grommet, but used the other method on the iPod cable with the iPod velcroed to the side of the bag. Haven't decided on routing the wiring inside the bag just yet it's still in the "dry run" stage.

I just did mine last week and this is what I can say:
1. How did the adhesive on the rubber gasket/seal around the lids or on the striker plates hold up? I heard a suggestion somewhere to use the stock Harley striker plates. -- What was provided is just fine, so far at least. Mine seal up very tight. If the plates fail I have some 3M double sided industrial adhesive tape that I will put on there.
2. Did you drill the bag and use the grommet installed in the kit or did you ream out a small section in the top of the bag and run the wires between the bag and lid? -- Drilled as per instructions.
3. Did you run the wires as described in the instructions (down, back, front, up and out) or did you find a more direct route? Those with liners what did you use to attach to the liners. velcro straps? -- Ran them under the interior hinge plate (has 4 screws in the inside of the bag), around the front, to the side and out the grommet with about 8" of the wiring connector outside the bag. I bought a carpet kit off eBay and used spray adhesive. All turned out great.

Have done a few. Rubber gaskets are perfect fit and fine. They seal well. The wear plates; get the HD wear plates. I haven't installed a set of lids yet that the provided wear plates haven't come off of. The stock HD part # is 90962-93 and they're like $5 each.

Unless someone specifically asks me to drill bags, I won't. The 2 speaker wires coming out of the bag are small enough to be encapsulated in heat shrink or black electrical tape and laid right over the top of the lower saddlebag.
3. Did you run the wires as described in the instructions (down, back, front, up and out) or did you find a more direct route? Those with liners what did you use to attach to the liners. velcro straps?
with liners, I don't attach anything. I run the wire from the speaker, behind the tether strap, down into the bag and behind the liner.

Is what I used a a center punch over blue painters tape then used a step bit.(i think thats what its called) I included pics of what it looks like and it made a perfect hole that the rubber grommet fit into nicely.
Thank you all for your input. It looks like new HD striker plates are in order. I was wanting to keep a quick connect inside of the bag for ease of bag removal so I am leaning more on notching the top of the bag slightly for the wire. I want to line the bags so will experiment with the routing of the wires inside.
Thanks again
