Default J & M audio problems w/ FM reception

Bought the "D" series amp 180w w/ 7" speakers kit for 13 SG. Install was simple and easy. Have the pos and neg properly connected / grounded. FM reception is horrible and worse when bike is running. I have the hidden hd ant under the fairing, not sure that has anything to do with it, but when I bypass the amp from hu direct to speakers, it's fine. Amp still on.

JM says they never heard of such a problem and they want me to send amp to them.

I'm not exactly satisfied with the sound quality from cd or mp3 either.

Anyone ever experience this?

afacey ,,,,,,,,

any way that you can plug back in your rear FM antenna momentarily so that you can determine if the in-fairing antenna you have is the problem ? ,,,,,,

then if it is, I suggest using this one http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail....tID=FPA-HCFM-P ,,,,,,,,

J&M Performance series class-D amplifiers DO NOT interfere with FM radio reception ,,,, neither do our class G amplifiers ,,,,

John, I don't have the org ant, only the cable that is run to the rear, and of course that is worse. So not sure what to do here. I just bought the system last week and in all honesty even if the FM reception was fine, I was looking for a bit better sound quality, not just cleaner at volume. Your rokker system sounds like it would be more in line with my expectations. If I'm stuck with it, so be it --we'll need to fix the FM reception.

What should I do?

afacey ,,,,,,,

If you want to trade in what you just purchased and installed for the higher powered ROKKER XX system, we can do that for you ,,,,,,

who did you actually purchase the original system from ? ,,,,,,

do you anticipate adding any more speakers to the bike in the near future ?

John, I bought the system from eastern performance on Monday last week. What would be the difference in price? I will stay with just 2 spkrs on my 13 SG. Thanks

Ok, I'll do it. I'm in Colorado, when can we get it going? I did install, extremely simple, that's why I'm stumped on the FM reception issue.

Class D is class D. I don't care the manufacturer. From J&M, to Biketronics, Soundstream, ARC Audio, JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate, and so on. The design of the power supply circuits for these amps is the same (that in addition to the transistors used in the outputs circuits is what makes them Class D) with different parts per manufacturer but the problem still exists. And to further that, it's hit or miss. Some it works fine, some it barely interferes, some it takes out FM altogether. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, at least not that I have been able to figure out with varying setups and equipment.

U/N,,,,,

I disagree ,,,, the J&M Class D amps have NEVER caused FM radio reception problems and I have installed and tested a lot of them ,,,,,,,,

afacey has some type of antenna issue, could be a plug issue on the case of the Harley radio, could be something else ,,,,,,,,

when he and I find it ,,,,, you will be the first person we tell !??! LOL ,,,,,,
