Default Next step, which saddlebag lids?

I think the next step will be some 6x9 saddlebag lids, speakers for the rear pods, and an Amp to mount in the tour pak to push the 4 speakers

Any recommendations from the pros on any of the parts I should get?

Hogtunes lids seem to be the best thing going since they accept pretty much any 6x9, are well made, and have the water channels to boot. RF makes a 6x9 that the tweeter is mounted on a bridge so it's a good waterproof fit when installed properly, and a pretty impressive speaker also. Also the HAT/BT 6x9 is a great speaker as well. For bass response though, nothing will beat the Pioneer TS-D6902R.

I'd stay away from the Cycle Sounds lids as they leak like a sift and workmanship is lack luster at best. Parts that come with them don't fit properly, they recommend you heat up and peel off the stock striker plates in their instructions, the gaskets that come with them don't seal the lids completely. I cannot honestly tell you one person I know or know of that has put these on with different speakers (including myself) and they didn't leak. Just a bad design IMO.

CVO lids are great also if you're going to use the BT 6x9 kit, BT479. Awesome 6x9, pricey but worth it. Otherwise you'll be using 5x7 speakers. RF makes a pretty decent 5x7 but it's not waterproof since the stalk is in the middle of the woofer cone.

John, I know it's late, but....you always say that SIZE MATTERS !! Everybody wants 6X9's, and the Pioneers will thump better than any other 6X9.... The 5X7's have no chance here.....

Your 5X7's are designed for the factory Harley lids, correct ??

Do you plan to release a 6X9 ??

As always , you provide a great service for a bunch of folks ! Keep up the good work !! Safe travels , my friend !!

$350 for the speakers, then I have to buy Harley saddlebag lids and an amp? No thanks. That's gonna make this project WAY too expensive.

So, if I go with the HogTunes saddlebag lids, Pioneer 6x9s in the lids, and the Infinity 62.11 in the Tour Pak pods, which amp should I get? I plan to mount the amp in the Tour Pak, and would like to power the Pioneers and Infinity speakers with the amp.
Does this sound like a good set up?

I plan to do "Phase 1" of my audio upgrade next week. "Phase 1" will be the Infinity 62.11 in the fairing, powered by a PBR300x2 which will be mounted in the fairing.

The saddlebag lids, speakers, amp, and Infinity 62.11 in the Tour Pak pods will be "Phase 2" of my audio upgrade.

Thanks for all the help, as always!

GLACIERPEARL ,,,,,,

no question that the 6X9" speaker size will outperform the 5X7" size ,,,,,, what I was most surprised about was how few 6X9" speakers there are available that perform well ! ,,,,,

heck back in my car stereo days in the 70s, when we placed 6X9" Pioneers, Jensens, etc ((the list is long)) on the rear deck of Camaros, Cudas, Mustangs etc., there were many top performing 6X9" speakers available ,,,,,

well that does not seem to be the case anymore as I purchased a set of Hog-Tunes 6X9" lids, (very well made by the way) and tried not only the 6X9" speakers included with them, but the Marine 6X9s from Polk, and Alpine and I was so thoroughly UN-IMPRESSED it was a real eye-opener,,,,

at MANY of the trade shows last year all around the USA, we installed our ROKKER XTP amplifiers on many Harleys that had 6X9" speakers in the lids, and I can say this without any hesitation, that the J&M 5X7" ROKKER XX speakers in the lids outperformed them ,,,,,,

I DO BELIEVE that you and Ultra-Nutz have found a 6X9" speaker from Pioneer that outperforms them all ,,,, and that is a good thing, because most of what is offered today in the marketplace is less than stellar ,,,,,

will J&M be offering a 6X9" ROKKER XX speaker in the future ?? ,,,,, maybe, but first I am trying to figure out HOW to get a 6X9" speaker to work well into the 2014 Harley saddlebag lids ,,,,, when we get that accomplished, it will open up 14 years of Harley saddlebag applications to the 6X9" lid size, and THAT is a lot of potential sales $$$$ volume ,,,,

Ok, now that we know J&M's future plans, does anyone have any input or suggestions on my last post?

Thanks

since you're mounting in the tourpak, I highly recommend you take a look at the amp I run which is the Soundstream TN4.900D. That thing will drive the crap out of those Pioneer speakers.

wrap those speakers with 3 layers of polyfil (the thin stuff from Walmart) and you'll love that setup.

in the tourpak pods take a single thin layer of polyfil and line the pod itself, don't wrap the speaker

you'll shortly be after a set of lowers to round out that system. :-)
