I was hoping to get some suggestions for new saddlebag speaker lids. I am looking for QUALITY units, that come with screens and I can put in my speaker of choice. I would prefer to use 6x9's in them.
I would like to use the HD's but when you buy just the lid it seems it doesn't come with screens and are made in a way that you can only use their boom speaker although I have seen someone tweak it so it will accept another brand but then I would still be w/o screens
Thanks in advance for the suggestions
I used the HD speaker lids, with Polk 5x7's, although I'm going to swap them out for Rockford Fosgate 6x8's over the winter.
You can buy the speaker grills from HD for $40 each, so don't let that be your deciding factor...
If the lids are set up for 5x7's how will you fit the 6x8's in there.
Also, I was unaware you could buy the screens separately, in the parts catalog it says they come with the speakers, I thought that was HD's sneaky way of keeping their corner of the market- thanks
Having already purchased the baskets and screens for my new painted lids ( purpusely not getting the speakers thinking I would see what other speakers are available) I found out that, short of making modifications to other speakers, only HD speakers will fit in their baskets. Now I want to purchase just the speakers and I'm told "not sold separately" on the speakers. Are you **itting me?? What if one speaker blows out, of someone backs their sled into my baggs, or any number of other possibilities that require replacing the speakers - apparently HD's answer is to purchase the entire $389 "kit" which includes basket, harness and grill - which I won't need! It's like having to buy a new car cause the tires wore out. UNBELIEVABE Harley!!

Sorry, I was sleeping on the job here!
The speaker grills fit on the top (outside) of the HD saddle bag lids. The 5x7 speakers, and 6x8 speakers are pretty close to the same size. I'm pretty sure they'll fit because there are a few threads on here about guys making them work. I believe I'll just have to do some trimming on the speaker's mounting holes with my tin snips. I had to do that with my 5x7's also. It took probably 2 minutes to make each one fit. It was way easier than I thought.
I didn't mess with the HD speaker baskets though. I just mounted my speakers directly to the HD lids. Works great.

Negative- there is a thread floating around here where a guy put in other speakers, yes it does require a small amount of trimming but it can be done.
Just like I went into the HD dealer yesterday and told me that the front lower speaker holders (or whatever they are called) are not sold separately
