I don't use them except when installing more than 1 speaker in each bag to isolate them from each other. Bags are pretty close to nominal size "air-space" wise to accommodate 1 6x9. I do however recommend you either throw in the HD saddlebag liners or line the inside of the bags with something. keeps the ABS from flexing
