I have searched the forum and only managed to get myself completely confused. I am not looking for the "ultimate" sound system, but I am looking for a significant upgrade to what I currently have.
I have a 2009 Ultra Classic.
I currently have the HogTunes Tweeter Pod and a pair of the HogTunes early fairing speakers. It sounds a bit better than what was stock, but not by much.
I would like recommendations on what I should be looking at to improve the entire system, without giving up the stock HU or any of it's functionality. I listen mainly to my iPod connected via the 1/8" socket on the H/K HU. If there is a better way to integrate an iPod, I would like to hear about that too.
I need whatever I do to be "plug and play" I am not an electronics guru and really want to avoid cutting and splicing as much as possible. I don't need saddlebag or lower fairing speakers either. I would just like to replace the 4 current speakers and perhaps add an amp. With this in mind, what would you guys suggest?
For true plug and play and no modifications to your stereo, you would be better off with a system from J&M, Biketronics, Hawg Wired, etc. All of those are true plug and play and sound pretty awesome. I had the J&M rokker system for a while and it was true plug and play. It was great with the factory radio but when I went aftermarket radio, the components were exposed, specifically the speakers. Even the amp ended up taking a crap with the aftermarket speakers hooked to it, but it may have been more of an age thing as opposed to anything else. I was beyond happy with it nonetheless. If you want to upgrade your stereo too (which I highly recommend), the only thing I have seen so far that is comparable to the Harley factory radio but with added features is the new radio from Jensen (HD1BT is the part number if im not mistaken). Good luck with whatever you decided and by the way...dont be so afraid of the aftermarket stuff. The amount of fabrication is not as bad as you think....
FM radio is always a consideration when talking most bang for the buck. If you don't mind losing your FM The soundstream 520.D is your best option for a 4 channel amp. If you want to keep your FM the price of eggs goes up significantly. A nice system in my mind with the stock HU will always be 4 Polk MM651's and the soundsgtream 520.D. if you buy the Polks from an authorized dealer. Next would be the Rockford PBR300X4 with the CS67 Kicker speakers. After that it gets expensive! Plug and play is over rated. These two systems are very user friendly to install. All you need is the Ultranutz Sticky's at the beginning of the audio section. . .Piece of cake!
