Default HU advice

Does anyone know if an aftermarket HU is available that has a built in and accessible D/A converter. I like to listen to my music on my iPod Classic and want to run the digital signal from the main plug on the bottom of the iPod into a D/A converter instead of using the mini audio jack. The cheapest component on any iPod is the internal D/A converter. All the music on my iPod is at max resolution in ALAC.

Thanks

Agreed on the d/a converter on an ipod. However most internal DAC's on your typical head unit aren't a hell of a lot better. Iron cross audio has a cable that allows you to run your digital signal from your ipod directly into the stock head unit and maintain your handlebar functions. Obviously the stock HU DAC isn't great but better than your ipod and not too much different from your typical aftermarket head unit DAC. What speakers and amp are you running?

My set up exactly. I'm told that the BT 2180 would open up the 7.1s even more as they are 4ohm and power hungry. But I'll honestly tell you that after 2500 miles in 8 days I NEVER needed to push the amp hard to hear my music very clearly at almost any speed. And I'm running a stock HU.

That's great to know. I like the look of the Ironcross kit you mentioned. Thanks for that info.
