Default BT4180 vs JL Audio or Alpine?

The BT4180 is getting rave reviews, but at its price it is in the company of high end amps like the JL HD600/4 and the Alpine PDX. Has anyone compared it to any of these or other >$500 amps?

JL HD600/4 won't fit in your fairing so you will have to give up bag space. BT has more power per channel than JL600/4 and is less expensive, per Sonic Electronics ($729). BT amps are also plug and play with factory radios, and has all wiring included.

What PDX model are you looking at?

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...PDX-4100M.aspx

PDX-4100M is 4x100, full class D, Marine rated, ~$380 online

Dimensions: 10-3/16"W x 2-1/2"H x 8-1/2"D

BT180 is much smaller at 7" x 2" x 5"

Question is if it fits or not in the fairing. I have had great luck with the PDX amplifiers in cars. Small, powerful, and run very cool.

Extended bags and a fairing, and you're worried if it its in the fairing ?? Blasphemy !!!

The OP is talking about SQ only....he never mentioned that it HAD to fit in the fairing !!

That being said, I'd be real surprised if the BT 4.180 could do what my Alpine PDX 4.150 do !!

Thx GP,
Yes gents sound quality only I've been told that the Fosgate and SS amps that I have are inferior in sound quality to the high end amps mentioned. Was curious about the sound quality of the BT4180 b4 I spent >$500 on another amp.

If it's loud and clean at 75 mph. That's pretty much all the sound quality you're gonna get. Unless we are talking parking lot. The difference in sound quality between the so called "High end" amps and any other comparable amp at 75-80 mph. (I'm talking clean power) is going to be minimal. IMO the Soundstream and the Rockford amps are not by any means "Inferior" My TN4.900 Soundstream will perform as well as any amp you buy in sound quality at 75 MPH.

Reading the fine print "your results may vary" I must have gotten one of the RF PBR's that varied, as I noticed a substantial difference between the RF and the JL Audio. To the OP A large contributor "for me" is the windshield I ride with, my typical set up when riding with the fairing is a 6.5 klockwerks, long trips I put a 15" shield on, quietens everything down a lot, fine line between cool and comfort.

Here is a side x side of the two amps that I own, there is a difference

As long as you don't mind giving up bag or tour pack space. That's a no-go for me.

well of course they are but it's directly relevant to what you want to spend and what your realistic expectations are.

I get a kick out of all this stuff being posted now about SS, RF, PPI, PA, etc. When all this started a few years ago, it was all about the "bang for the buck". Believe me I get that there are much better products out there and to be honest things like BT, (no offense ericl) JL, (and no offense GP) but Alpine too are far inferior amps to other products out there. Again, relevance.

I guarantee you I can put a 400w Alpine in 1 bike, a 400w BT in another, a 400w JL in another bike, a 400w RF in another bike, and a 400w SS amp in another, all with the same head unit and same speakers and at 80MPH they all sound the same; like crap just louder and more audible. Just the nature of the beast. Now if you're a parking lot queen and like to show your stuff and name-drop then I see the benefit to you of ridiculous amounts of $ spent on these systems for sound quality. Again, relevance.

I'm still all about "bang for the buck" and realistic expectations on a bike. You guys keep spending your $ on "high-end" stuff and I'll be happy to compare systems with any of the higher end stuff, especially the JL stuff. Over priced, under-powered.

sorry but to come here and preach something is better than the next just because you read it on the internet is absolute BS and obviously gets under my skin. Get out and listen to bikes you think you like and make your decisions. Bottom line is most systems will sound great if setup properly.
