The HK unit is such junk that TO ME there are 3 pieces of the puzzle that need to be changed to make it sound "right." Aftermarket head unit, amp and speakers. If I only did 2 of 3 I wasn't very very happy. Started out with Hogtune speakers that were already in the bike and added an amp, wasn't happy. Added BT7.1 and was happy but wanted more. Changed out POS stock head unit for Sony and very very happy. Bonus - added lids and Pioneer 6x9s and EXTREMELY happy! I hear my rear 6x9s loud and clear at 90+ miles per (have the fader set at rears +3) and you feel like it's surround sound, because it is. Oh, and I also have a D&D Fat Cat exhaust which is loud as hell. All total after selling my stock head unit and painting lids I have $1000 in my system. I listen to a lot of R&B (product of late '80s high school years) so bass is important to me and what I have makes me smile from ear to ear. You don't get tons of bass at high speeds but you can still hear it.

I just installed Rockford Fosgate Punch PBR300X2 amp with the Polk mm651 speakers and and I'm very happy. Did a lot of reading HD forums and other reviews and finally chose this setup. Pretty simple install but you will have to splice and solder several connections. Not plug and play. Amazon has a pretty good package price with including power cord and speaker adapter rings
It's so funny how times change......when I built my system in 2009 and anointed the HK head unit as 'junk' I was jumped on quicker than a $2 *****,.......now today everyone agrees !!

I wouldn't call it completely junk. I made a boatload of money off mine selling it to a guy in the Netherlands.

Hmmm that reminds me. I have one sitting in the garage now. ;-) How about the stock speakers? are they worth anything? I really need to sell a few things.
I have 2 questions. Is there a more waterproof unit?
and is the HK junk after the ICA preamp out mods?
Thx
When you get the ICA mods done, you will be plenty happy with it. Hell, had I known about ICA before I sold my stock HK, i'd still have it instead of the kenwood....only because of the no hassle convenience of being waterproof.
