Default Watch out for tariffs when ordering parts

I just want to share my experience and give a head up when ordering parts from the US . I ordered a pair of trigger hand levers from Lucky Speed Shop (they are made to order)
I paid 180 bucks CDN I then get notice to clear customs CBSA require another 62 CDN in tariff fees . I was thinking maybe a 10-15 dollar import fee but holy **** . If anyone can help explain how this works please let me know . I have not seen anyone in Canada who ,makes a similar design

Well 10% of that 62 CDN probably goes to the "Big Guy" Wonder if it works like that going the other way from a supplier in Canada, to US.

Hell I sent some gifts to a friend last year and they tacked on tariffs. I live in Florida and sent it to Mississauga.

My location puts me within an hour of the US border. I ship to a parcel service on the US side and drive down and pick up. (OP you’re even closer) only fee I pay is usual taxes and often the border guys wave you thru. So no fees. The minute you ship across the line to your door the package has to go thru the brokerage process. Anyway if your near enough to the border make the drive or if you know someone returning to Canada get them to pick it up.

I ordered some software from a company in Canada and there was a Duty added to the cost when it came to the US. I also purchased motorcycle gear from the Netherlands and no Duty was applied. So not sure why some get it while others don't.

Yes brokerage fees SUCK , unless it is a VERY good deal or an item that can't be purchased in Canada you are S.O.L.
I just paid allmost 500.00 in b.s. fees , but it was items could not be purchased in this country .

The brokerage process is not consistent. There is also one or two shipping companies that force everything through a brokerage and it sends your packadge soaring as they tack in absorborent fees for then to do this for you, not worth it most of the time. Anyway a buddy told me about a process where you ship it to a company on the US side and then Canadian company will go down pick it up bring it across usually charge you 18 bucks for that and you then go to the local customs office pay the Customs fee and grab your parcel. The whole process is simple and easy, and shipping is usually very fast since shipping to us address from a us address is must faster. If you want to check out one Of the sites and they explain the process. Check out seawings.ca

The OP never came back to clarify that there were brokerage fees, and I suspect they were.
I have ordered many items from many vendors in the USA and only got stung when they shipped UPS.
I now only get things delivered from the USA if they use their Postal Service USPS, sometimes there will be a HST charge, most often none.

Yes, it's the UPS company that does this. I also NEVER, have anything shipped by them.
