Default Going to Nova scotia

If I was thinking of driving from Cambridge Ontario to Nova Scotia what is the best route to avoid the traffic of Montreal/ Quebec. It's been 30 years since I done the drive and way back then we would leave toronto at a time to circumvent Montreal in the wee early hours so as to not get lost. Those were the days before GPS and the only main concern was to get to the tunnel under the Saint Lawrence to come out on the transCanada on the other side for a free wheeling straight drive East.

When I did it, I went through Niagara, along Lake Ontario on 104, then through the Adirondacks, green mountains, white mountains to the coast of Maine, then north. That was in 2019. Absolutely lovely ride. My family is from Sackville and Lorneville, NB, though my relatives there are no more.

I feel the same way about Shitcago…..only they spell it Chicago.

Unfortunately I won't be riding. If I go I'll be buying a trailer to haul the bike behind my Ram 1500, because I have to take my dog with me... .it's a long story. Lol. The idea was to blast down the 401 East and bypass Montreal around 2 am or 3 am. If I were just riding by myself I'd definitely to the US route through Maine. I've ridden there many times but this is a get there fast and drop my pup with some family and do a few days checking out NS. I want to see if I would consider moving there.

2 or 3 am is the same time frame I drove through Montreal just a few months ago, still SUCKED.

There are some really bad drivers in that province , the worst in this entire country, my opinion.

On the bright side you ARE driving through at the best possible time , good luck .

no butat night it’s the straight route. You could take 30 before you get to Mtl and bypass south of the city. If you’re pulling a trailer it might be better.

Like NGUp said, take the 30 from the 20, it’s a toll bridge that will permit you to bypass Montreal on the south side and you will reconnect with the 20 further on.
