You can use a stock intake with a 42mm.
They do wear out from too many R&R's and/or running too long with a misaligned mount/backing plate. If you have concerns, you can replace it with a Screamin' Eagle 29635-99 which has a much larger carb bung and will accept up to a 45mm carb. The head spigots are the same and comes with o-rings and 2 intake grommets - one for 40/42 and another for 44/45mm carbs.
