My bike is an EVO Softail, from 87, and it has a Keihin CV carb (I think CV40..).
Just under the butterfly, there are 6 very small holes. When the butterfly is closed, hole #1 is in front, towards the intake manifold, and the other holes are behind the butterfly.
Can you explain more in detail what is the function of these small holes? Which of them are directly connected with the pilot jet circuit, which with the enricher circuit, or mixture screw circuit?
transfer ports. as the rpm increases, the slow jet is weaned off as air flow and engine demand is increased and these ports are extra fuel bleeds to help transition the needle jet as low pressure causes the fuel to rise from the float bowl via the main jet through the emulsion tube to mix with air from the air port at the front of the carb throat and around the slide needle to the engine. when the engine reach around 3/4 to wot the main jet and throttle plate then controls the mix.
these little buggers can cause a flurry of issues if they are restricted or blocked, a common sign of a poorly maintained and lousy fuel. if moisture is involved the aluminum body will bloom (what they call corrosion) and basically makes a paper weight out of the carb, absolutely nothing can be done once it is there.
