I have been looking for a knuckle for some time in rider condition. Not had much luck everything is over restored to the point where it would not be rational to actually ride. Locally, in California at least, a 1939 UL has popped up well under $ wise what I was looking at for a knuckle. It is cosmetically unrestored but fully rebuilt mechanically. Bike did a 2500 mile tour across the united states as a shakedown with a vintage association rally without failure.
So I have ridden a knuckle and I like the fit. Other then the drivetrain and oiling system differences is there anything else different in terms of suspension/tanks/riding position between a UL and a FL. I know they made the big twin for a while so parts availability seems better then the knuckle and I have plenty of other bikes to go fast. This is my way of dipping my toe into owning a Harley built prior to the 1950's where I normally like to stay.
Identical bike except the engine and tanks (underside of tanks is specific to the U engine). The UH is an 80 inch which 1941 was the last year of that before switching to 74" exclusively.
