Having trouble with the throttle cables. I haven't checked yet but I'm guessing they are not the right cables for the CV carb. Went to full lock turn getting out of the garage and the idle was stuck around 2500 rpm. had to pull on the cables to drop the idle back down. What year did Harley start using the CV carb so I know what cables to order?
Evo inner cables are longer, I had the same issue on my 82 wide glide when I put a CV carb on. Had to buy evo bike cables which would be 84 up.
Definitely not stock, some aftermarket extended version. Best bet is to find the part #'s for the original parts and start looking on the Bay. It will put you back to a comfortable position.
Trying to sneak out there now and find some clues what they are but the wife is on a mission with the Christmas decorations.Maybe whoever makes them has adapters to bring them closer.

You could drill holes and move the pegs closer, but the shifter and brake pedal will be difficult to fix without buying new. By the time you mess around with all that you could have bought the right ones. I got a set for my 79 for $50 or $100, can't remember. Used parts on eBay shouldn't be much.

Joe I've been waiting for you to chime in. Do you know if a set of controls off a 1996 Softail would work? When I look up aftermarket controls for a 1996 FXSTC and check fitment it lists 1984 FXST
LOL thanks. Early Softails do have the same mounting points as shovelheads. I don't know the cutoff from early to late. Brake mounting plate PN 42507-82 covers FXWG and FXST up to 86, but that doesn't mean it won't fit later bikes. Then I looked at aftermarket softail forwards and seems 84-99 are the same and 00-17 are different, so I think you will be OK. (Maybe buy from someone with a generous return policy just in case it doesn't fit?)
I started getting my hopes up when I saw the aftermarket sets covering 84-89 but they probably just put extra holes in the brackets. I'm getting closer. I can smell it.

Joe you're the best. Easier finding individual parts.

84 FXST has the master cylinder mounted to the brake pedal bracket. 90 FXST brake pedal does not have the MC on the bracket. Where is the master cylinder mounted on 1990 & up softail?

I don't know. It's not clear from the parts fiche:
