hi just joined today and was if anyone was familiar automatic chain oilers i have a 75 1200 shov that if i let it sit for more than aweek when i start it drops about 100Mls of oil out chain oiling hose i was wandering if i could reroute it anywhere maybe back to oil tank but there is alot of air blowing out of the hose as well is this possible to do any help would be much appreciated sorry about the long thread
hi 71 shovelhead thanks for your input i had alook at the manual and all hoses look to be in the right spots the hose that leaks sits just above the chain the manual also said there is an adjustment screw on the oil pump i tried winding it back all the way in and out 1/4 of aturn it still doing it one thing i do know its getting fresh oil but it is getting expensive need to reroute chain oiler and lube it manualy do you still have your chain oiler if not what set up do you run any help would be very appreciated
[]I don't have a rear chain oiler, my trans seeps enough that I don't need one anyway. The screw on my original oil pump acually controled the amount of oil on the primary chain. I used to rout my breather to the drive chain . Sorry about the late reply been away and had puter problems. PS if the hose you're talking about is 5/16 or 3/8 inch id its probably the engine breather and don't return it to the oil tank![&:]
I have the same problem with my 72 1200. the problem is the checkvalve for the oil tank. the ball valve is dirty, allowing oil to seep down into the crankcase from the tank. clean the checkvalve which is located under the larger screw on the righthand side of the case, and it should solve this problem. as a hint, you do not want to route the breather line back into the oil tank, as there is a bit of moisture that builds up from tiome to time.
thank heeps guys for your input very much appretiated cleand the check valve and left the hose alone every thing is going great sorry the reply took so long just got my computer running again THANKING BOTH YOU happy and safe riding to youse
