Default 1973 Harley Davidson AMF Z90

So i found a 1973 AMF z-90 on a local classifieds and picked it up for a whopping $150. This thing was covered with 20 years of garage dust but underneath it all it was surprisingly clean. The bike has 120 miles on the original speedo so thats what im basing off of.. original tires, mostly complete but half the blinkers were smashed. Tank has ZERO corrosion in it, i lubed the cylinder, fully cleaned the carb, replaced all fluids. The original owner had a wiring malfunction last time this thing was ridden and registered back in 1981, so a good majority of the wiring was fried ( so i wasnt even able to attempt to start it) So i decided to salvage what i could as far as wiring and rewire the entire bike. It took a lot of beer and time but i figured it out. When it came down to trying to fire the bike up, it started right up!!! idoling is rough but the thing runs. Im waiting on a new chain right now so i can road test this thing since the old one was shot.

So im here to get opinions on the future of this bike. Ive done a lot of research on these bikes made by AMF and Harley, and the majority of people preach to keep the bikes as original as possible because they are rare. But im considering going a different route. Back in the 70's the guy who had these bikes were probably younger, and i can see them tearing up the streets, and tinkering on their bikes with the buddies. So im considering a route somewhat like that. Get the bike running efficiently then mod it tastfully as i go. These bikes fully restored to original condition arent worth crazy money anyway.

Opinions??

Also, anyone with pictures, stories, suggestions of similiar bikes feel free to input!

Ive attached a picture of the day i picked it up.

The bike can be seen in this clip from the old "Bad News Bears" of the kid tearing up the field.

Awesome. I have a thing for Aermacchi HD's myself, I have two Sprints. One came with the same tank as your bike. They are tons of fun and simple to work on. I work across the street from one of the best places to get parts for them if you need them (and you will...). Owner is an awesome guy named Les.

His info:
Moto Italia
1060 Petaluma Blvd N Petaluma, CA 94952
(707) 763-1982
www.motomacchi.com

Hope it helps.

My old mans first motorcycle was a Harley Davidson z90 built in Italy, well its been sitting in his basement for 20 some years and hasn’t ran in almost 40+ since the oil pump went bad and caused the engine to seize up. It only has 940 miles on it, I recently pulled it out of the basement and shook the dust of it because it’s going to be a winter project of mine to restore it. I’m most likely going to scrap the engine since it’s a pathetic 90 cc and has an unreliable and crappy design with it being oil injected. (The old man said she topped out at about 45 and always had a trail of smoke behind it lol) The hardest part is going to be finding an engine that’ll fit the frame and that’ll line up with rear wheel, I’m not too concerned with keeping her stock or with vintage Harley parts because an almost perfect condition z90 is barely worth $2000. Might as well give her a 20th century upgrade with a better engine, led lights, and a digital speedometer. Hell it still has the tires from Italy on it but I don’t know if would trust those old rubbers. If anyone would happen to know what type of engine would work best besides the original, which would cost more to fix than buying a more modern engine please let me know! I’m definitely interested and open to ideas.
Thanks fellas and have a good one!
