It would be easier and maybe cheaper, but you should be aware that this will change your bike (legally) from an '06 H-D to a (whatever year the frame was made in) special construction. I'm sure LOTS of folks will tell you they have done it with no problems, etc., that's how the Internet works. That's all well and good for them. The sad and sorry fact is they are not financially responsible for the change, you are. Call your local DMV to check on the particulars. You will also want to check with your finance company as this likely has a bearing on your contract.

The frame is a serialized part, integral to the motorcycle, and legally you must re-register the bike after the change. There are provisions made when a motorcycle is wreched and a new frame is provided by the manufacturer, however you have to send the neck back to the MoCo (with the VIN) in order to get a replacement.

It's also pretty tough to find a good shop that will do that sort of work on a frame on a street-ridden motorcycle. There's lots of guys that will take your money and light up the cutting torch, but you need to find one you will trust with your life ... literally.

Check on the Seeger front-ends for the same sort of look without the huge legal issues. It's not the same as a custom but in this case, that's the point.

yes it would be easier, however, in my state and many others, your bike is titled by the VIN number on the frame, so if that is the case in your state, it wont be a Harley anymore, but a special construction, which is gonna kill any resale that is left(getting smaller by the day), also your insurance will probably go WAY up. I have seen people mill off the vin area of Harley frames and put them on their new frame. Dont think that is any problem since you own both frames and titles.

Definitely illegal ... seen a bike hauled away for it. Chances are the person (inspector, cop, etc) won't know the difference but there are many that do. If I did that sort of thing to my bike I'd take a WIDE berth of any big runs/rallies. Most of them have teams of guys checking VINs. You don't see them till they tap you on the shoulder and say "That your bike?"

3 degrees is not enough to make a visual difference (or much of one). It's incorrect for them to say they do not create handling issues also. Any change you make changes the steering geometry, it's impossible for it not to. Raked cups are used when other changes are made (like raking the neck) to help with the trail.

I know what you are looking for because I've been there. You'll go through all the questions that I (and many others) have exhausted and hopefully figure out that there's no replacement for doing it right. Seeger (and others like them) front ends are one way to do it without major mods. If you go with frame mods (or a new frame) you will need to take the rake and trail into consideration and probably end up with more than a few dollars sunk in doing it right.

Have a look at this page , it might help you understand:

http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/rakeandtrail.html

... also Google for "rake and trail" and read everythign on it till you get it. It's very important.
