Airbrush Question?????
Ok I posted a month or so ago about airbrushing my 2007 yellow pearl 1200c. Well last night I took the black side covers off and this was the result.
Question for anyone who has had airbrushing done on their bike at a motorcycle event. When the artist does artwork on a bike at a booth what do they do to prep the area and what do they do to preserve the art on a bike?
Last night I removed the covers and wet sanded them with 800 grit and then cleaned good with alcohol. I then proceeded to airbrush on them. After all airbrushing was done I took a rattle can clearcoat from auto parts store and applied 3 coats (2 light coats and one medium coat). I reinstalled them this morning. The can said wait 48 hours to polish and buff. So that will happen tommorrow evening.
My question is how do the artists do it when they are in a booth? Do the customers later clearcoat it or does the artist protect it with an intercoat and recommend clearing at some point?
The reason I ask is I would like to also do my tank and fenders but hate to have to remove them and do the full prep if there is a way to do it that involves less work. Lazy I guess but I know people put out fairly big bucks to have art put on their bikes at booths. I hate to think they waste money by having the work degrade over time by not having all the prep work done

When I paint, I apply a couple coats of HOK SG100 intercoat clear over artwork or graphics and then apply a catalyzed clear such as UFC-19 or UFC-35. Rattlecan clear will not provide nearly the protection that a good catalyzed clearcoat will.
