Default Assembled Title

Not sure where to post this but Custom Models might be the place. I am considering purchasing a bike that comes with an " Assembled Title." Has anyone had any experience with this type of title. Good? Bad? Avoid? I have never heard of this.
Thank you for any help.
Bob.

I've built a couple (back in the 90's,) and while living in Ohio (as states processes might vary a little.)

I put together all the MSO's and every receipt and ran it down to the State Highway Patrol for inspection and a "Special Construction" title.\

Biggest issue for a buyer of "assembled title" bikes IMO is to find the insurer that will cover them. I recall that I used Progressive back then(?)

Good luck!

Insurance will be expensive or will offer limited coverage.

The seller needs to show you all the paperwork he showed DMV when he had the bike inspected.

If he bought from the builder and has none of the paperwork, walk away.

Thank you. Never thought about the insurance aspect of it.

My brother was in a bad accident 30 years ago. He needed a new frame and when it was all done he had a NYS "Custom" yellow sticker in lieu of VIN#. It has been nothing but a PITA for him ever since, he pays more for less coverage on one bike than I pay for 5 with better coverage. Serious PITA.

Most often there needs to be a certificate of origin for the frame . That is not a title but allows you to get one down the road.
Purchases of this type can have high risk for low return. Just because someone had a bike for years does not mean it is clean.
sometime one slides by and all is good until it changes hands and someone looks at the paper work.
Friend purchased a Ultra limted. It sat 4 years because it had a 4 DUI. When he went to renew the registration. They of course wanted to know why it had nit been registered for 4 years He explained it all. Good to go. except while fixing the paper work something did not smell right. They dug into it. It had been a totaled bike with the title washed through a couple states.
He almost lost it. When it all settled he did end up with a branded title.
Be careful.

Last one I was involved with, the state wanted a copy of every receipt for all major parts, and/or a copy of the title & bill of sale from the owner of any donor bikes that provided parts (swap meet purchases)- they wanted this for triple trees, forks, frame (MSO because it was aftermarket), engine cases, transmission cases, etc. After all the paperwork was done, a safety inspection & highway patrol inspection was completed. Finally assigned a state VIN. I had Geico at the time, and they wanted hundreds/month for liability. Told them I'd look elsewhere. While shopping for a better rate, was informed by the state 'no insurance, no license'.
Major PITA

Thank you all for your much needed replies. This would be a second bike that I don't need that bad. Going to pass on this one.

Need a bit more info, was this a kit bike bought from a defunct company or something someone or a local shop did? Does make a difference particularly as mentioned with insurance issues.
