I am going to go with either a 240/250 when I do my first one and see how that works for me

most people agree that bigger then a 250 requires RSD.
Definately, I'd be thinkin' 'right side drive' at 250 +. Have you ridden anything larger that is off balance. It's work. [&:]

To answer the original question, the biggest tire you can go with on a 250 frame is a 260 if you use a chain final drive. That's what I did.

I wouldn't go any bigger than this, the bike will handle like ****.

I have a 280 with RSD. it handles fine.
