I am building a 2008 pro street custom that has an Ultima drivetrain (RSD). I broke the transmission shift arm and had to pull the main/counter shafts. That issue resolved I reinstalled everything and made sure the inner and outer primary lined up great.
At any rate the drive belt wants to walk to the outside of the trans pulley. As I understand it this is standard since the pulley is tappered.
On my Ultima 6 speed there is a belt guard ring that goes on after the belt. Questions are:
Is this ring neccesary? (it wants to pop off the tranny pulley)
Can I get a replacement belt guard ring?
Are there any other options for a belt guard that do not "snap" on?
Can i just leave the darn thing off?
Cheers!

The rear pulley has the tracking ring on stockers. If the belt tracks off the trans pulley it sounds like there is an alignment issue brewing. If the belt is forced against a tracking ring it will not last long.Never heard of tapered pulleys.Good Luck
Personally, I'd never skip the ring. \\; The pulleys should NOT be tapered. \\; I agree with dog155, if it's riding on the ring, the belt will wear out fast.....that will generate an enormous amount of heat from the friction.

But what the hell do I know?
