Nice bike bro, just wondering about a few things. Did you have the engine dyno'd? How's the ride in a rigid frame? Where are those Kraftech frames made? Thanks.

Thanks RK Harry. I have not had the Hardtail dyno'd and probably won't but based on my '04 RK with just under 100 ftlbs, this motor is all that and then some. Of course it's at least 100 lbs lighter. The Kraft Tech frame co is located in CA.
I'm still working on the ride. The original seat springs I selected were 200 lbs spring rate, times two springs meant at my weight I had to pull 2 Gs to make the seat move an inch. In other words way too stiff and just about knocked the fillings out of my teeth when I hit a pothole. I lightened the spring rates, but i would like to soften it up a little more. I am trying to work out and air spring solution but so far I have not found an off the shelf solution. Really makes me appreciate my RK suspension, but I meet a lot more people on the Hardtail. LOL

RRK, the reason I asked about the dyno was because when I rebuilt my engine, I had it dyno'd, of course I wanted to know how much HP and Torque it put out, but I was more concerned about getting the A/F mix dialed in exactly. I had a carb too. You need a tuner that has a sniffer, he sticks it into the exhaust and based on the gases in the exhaust, you get the A/F mix accurate to within a tenth, like 13.8 - 1 for example. Also, I saw some hardtail builds that use mini shock absorbers for seat support. OCC used them once and awhile on their builds. Just a thought. How difficult was the wiring on that bad boy?

RKH,

On my '04 RK I installed a power commander and tuned it by splicing two maps together using the seat of my pants as a Dino and my nose for being too rich. I'm sure most will say not the right way and I could maybe squeeze a little more performance but it runs great and gas mileage is over 40 mpg so I'm happy. I will do the Sam with the carb on the hardtail. I bought a jet kit and just need some time to play. I debated between a Super E and and the stock Keihin. My buddy said go with the Keihin and my research on line pointed me in that direction too. I bought a used Keihn off Craigslist that had some work done. Got lucky and the motor fired on the first crank. Made some idle and throttle stop adjustments and it runs pretty good, although I could use a little more low end responsiveness.

Wiring was a project in itself. I used the Thunderheart system and nothing but good things to say about it but it was a lot of wires, maybe 50 or so. I spent two nights just working out the routing before I started pulling the wiring. There are not a lot places to hide the wiring boxes and no elegent way I can see to use an EFI. I mounted the thunderheart box under the transmission and mounted the ignition module in the battery box. Not an square inch of space went to waste. Haha
