Default Pitted chrome

We have an old 1980 Kawasaki KZ250, its been in the family for years, most of its life in storage it only has 3000 miles on it. Anyway last fall I got it out and back on the road, it'sfun as heck to ride even though a 6'1" 235 I look like that bear riding a tricycle at the circus.. Well to make a long story even longer, my girlfriend has been riding it since her MSF class and now with her new Sporty at home we decided to sell it so someone else can enjoy the bike rather than put it back in storage.

I want to clean it up a bit before the sale and the chrome is beat, lots of rust and pitting. I tried Mothers and it made a big difference but I'd like to try to do more. Any suggestions? Also what should I use to clean up the motor? Its oxidized and old looking. I know I'm waisting my time on a 27 year old bike but it has sentimental value to me.
Thanks
Dave

I don't have any tips, but since the bike has sentimental value to you, i'd just keep it. Clean it up good, park it in the garage, and you or the lady just take it for a spin every now and then.[&:]

I've used an acid called Naval Jelly in the past...works well at small scale and spot rust, just make sure to tape off areas you don't want effected. You can find Naval Jelly at most auto parts stores or Wal Mart.

If you're just interested in selling it, it's more important that it runs, stops, the electrics work, and the tires are decent. Everything else the 'new owner' can tinker with. Price it right...It can't be worth too much. Probably has more 'value' to you than anyone else.

Well its surprising what these things bring in especially with low miles and everything in perfect working order. I've seen them go for 1500.00+ on ebay. Just about knocked me on my *** when I watched some of those auctions end. Lots of guys just love the old Japanese bikes I guess.. go figure??? huh
