I have an 03 se road king with the solid chromed wheels. I was out in the rain and ended up with water spots on the rims. How can I get them off short of hours of polishing ?
They just chrome or aluminum ? Maybe a pic of your issue.
can't send a picture now. They are aluminum that is chromed. They look like the old centerline racing rims in the late 70's - 80's. Centerline made them for harley.
Try white vinegar mixed with a bit of water. My car got stuck in front of lawn sprinklers that used secondary water and the spots were awful all over the car.
I used that on everything and it all came off.
That looks like polished aluminum that has been etched by a chemical in the water from water spots. Road film, chlorinated water or even some non-automotive soaps can cause that if it is not rinsed and dryed.
Does that mean I am hosed, or just a lot of elbow grease ?
Elbow grease most likely, mother's mag polish or something similar. A polishing cone on a drill will assist with the elbow grease.
And once you have them polished put a good coat of wax or polish sealer on them to prevent further issues, there are a lot of coatings out there, I use Zaino products (clear seal) and have been happy with the results. https://www.zainostore.com/product/Z-CS.html
I am sure @eaglefan1 will have some good recommendations as the products he recommends are top notch.
Harbor Freight is your friend, I use just the wheels with mother's mag polish use sparingly so as not to get it all over everything.
