Default Engine Cleaner Dawn Soap?

Has anyone tried diluting Dawn dish soap with water in a spray bottle and using that as an engine cleaner? Just curious what everyone uses. I know most of us use the HD engine brightener or the S100 to “brighten” up the black paint. But what do ya’ll use to actually clean the engine?

TIA

It will work. Dawn will remove grease and oil for sure. I just use regular auto car wash soak and a soft brush made for bike washing. Then S100 for the black.

Simple Green is what I use.
A toothbrush to get into the tight spots.
Pro Tip: Use the wife's toothbrush, not your own.

I had some work done at a dealer that I couldn't do myself and while it was there decided since I liked the tech I'd throw some more work at it. I had him pull the heads and clean up the cylinders and install new rings. Meanwhile I took the heads home, stripped the paint and re sprayed the black wrinkle finish, and heat cured them. Gave them back and when it was time to pick tge bike up it had been "detailed" by some grunt kid with Simple Green. My newly painted heads had white streaks all over them. The entire bike did actually. I will never use Simple Green.

I use Simple Green as a bug softener before washing.

Sounds like your bike was hot and in the sun when he applied the Simple Green. Dried up before he could wash it. Good luck.

Probably. Whatever it was I pitched enough of a fit they took it back and detailed it again. I got it back looking new again with an apology.
