this is an old trick to break in pesky chrome piston rings, way before modern tech made this almost non existent. we used a product called BON AMI, BUT, you must get the right one, the one with the chick on the label and says WILL NOT SCRATCH!!
this was added to the oil for a short run-in and later flushed out.
It comes down to what it is that you want to do? Are you trying to bring shine to the Al wheels or a dull type of finish? Trying to remove oxidation?
