Chuck

The 3M UltraFina SE is extremely forgiving on paint and does a fine job removing the spider web swirls associated with normal wear and washings. I use a rotary buffer with 2 speeds(hi and low) and I can run the UltraFina SE on high and not harm the paint. This is with a blue eggcrate foam pad.

It's idiot proof to be honest and gives my bikes finish a "better than showroom shine".......literally. Believe me, I'm VERY particular with my bike and this is the next best thing to sliced bread and easy to use.

It WILL NOT remove scratches you can catch with your fingernail in the clear. It does not cut....very easy on the paint and makes mine shine like no tomorrow.

Never tried 500W Halogens[&:], but since I do ride the bike I guess it's not even necessary. I do check it under all settings of natural lights and shadows and buff to my liking. If I was shining 500W lights on it, I'd put it in a curio and never ride it.

, Ok I ride mine too. A 500w halogen is a typical work garage light any more. It really duplicates bright sun if that's your goal. Florescent lights are like a showroom lights, quite different than bright sunlight.

Ultrakla$$ic,

Have you tried to contactPorter Cable directly for thevariable speed polisher/sander?

Also, try www.Griotsgarage.com

Griots have a variable speed polisher/sander that is made by Porter Cable but, to their specifications. I think they may have the only PC style of machine now available.

In addition, Griots have a great hook and loop polishing pads and wax pads that are for use with the speed polisher or by hand and their products are one of the best I have come across. Griots polish and waxes clean upwith water and give me a great shine on all of my cars or my ultra.

Check them out.

Dan

I am like you. Soooooooooooooo **** about my bike. Would not buff the bike because of swirl marks. Got tired of using 3M swirl free products to get out the swirls. Then 1 day found this catolog from GRIOT'S GARAGE. I bought their 3" and 6" orbital buffers. Haven't tried the 6" yet but the 3" works great. Has speed setting on both buffers. Uses foam pads (color coded). Can't say enough good things about the buffers. I used their waxes also. They state they are the safest on the market. I purchased a package set from them which included the buffers, carring bag, several waxes, polishes, micro fiber cloths, and much more. I don't work for them or have anything to do with them. I am always looking for some product or tool to help me do a better job. They are not cheap but you will love their products. I have included theirwebsite below. Good luck

Pete

I've got a Porter Cable 7424 and foam pads...Local Lowes or HomeDepot didn't have it and I found it "online". Prices vary, so shop hard.
Someone had mentioned "buffing" and this isn't the same with foam pads. I worked at an auto detailer in my younger days and buffing can burn your paint if you don't know what your doing, but polishing with these foam pads is a breeze...I've used it on several vehicles and its great never tried it on my bike, but I will soon.

Hey Guys
Another vote here for the Griot's Professional Random Orbital buffer. I bought it to detail my Black Mustang Cobra and am using it on my 08 black Ultra with great results. I also use Griot's polish and wax pads with great results then a final wax with Meguiars.. Good Luck
