Default Tire Black

Has anyone used a cleaning agent to keep their tires blackened? I'm thinking of using Armor-All or similar but am concerned about loss of traction with overspray.

I use Armor All (but sparingly) I would suggest spraying it on a sponge first or rag and not directly on the tire. Be careful about getting it on an area that needs traction. I would also try to avoid it on pegs or grips . . . just my two cents . . . but I learned the hard . . . i.e. from experience [:@]

A downside to using Armor all is getting caught in the rain. Armor all will wash off the sidewall and end up on the tread. Armor all dosn't stand up well to water, It runs when wet. Imagine a wet corner with just a trace of armor all on your tread. Not a good thing.

I use Maguiars Hot Tire Shine (not the foam). I have found it lasts, looks great and most important the spray is very controlable. I can put it right on the sidewall only and keep it away from the tread. Just about all tire shine products say "not for use on motorcycles". The reason, I believe, is that if it gets on the tread you could have problems with traction when cornering. I have found by using this spray that I can be very precise with the application.

I don't have it in front of me and I can't remember the name but I found something, at WalMart of all places, that works pretty well on my bike. It's in a maroon colored container so it might be Meguiars. But, anyway, the bottle is sized to be held in your hand and the end is actually a foam applicator. The "junk" inside is more like a gel than a liquid. What's nice about it is there is no spraying so you don't have to worry about the stuff getting on the rubber that meets the road or your rims or anywhere else on your bike. And, it seems to last. I use armor all type stuff on my vehicles and, as another poster noted, as soon as it gets wet, it's gone. But this stuff keeps my tires nice and black and semi-wet looking through several washes or even riding in the rain. I used it on my tires before going to the Fall Rally at Myrtle Beach this year. It rained throughout most of the 6 hour ride down there and I washed my bike twice while I was there and again when I got home and I could still tell the stuff was on my tires. Like i said, can't remember the name but it was the only product WalMart had like it where the bottle was actually an applicator and is short and fat so that it fits your hand well when applying.

My latest sig pic below was just taken today right after washing the bike for at least the third time since I last put it on my tires.

I've always been of the attitude that armor all or tire shine on the tires period is a no go. I use armor all on the other parts of the bike (seat and other rubber), but not on the tires. I guess if you used something that did'nt sling or wash off easily, you'd be ok, but i just dont trust it. On a side note, i use black magic on all my other vehicles and its leaves the brightest shine and doesnt sling.
