ok,
Genius, me that is, put the cover on the bike too soon, it melted on both pipes, haha, sniff, lol!
ok, what is the best way to get this off??

I've used a small brass brush and very gently brushed the stuff off. Sometimes doing it wet with water will help. Just go slow and gentle. The brass is softer than the chrome and shouldn't damage the chrome. Then when all done shine up the chrome with windex.
keep the shiney side up.
