RE: Black Out engine restore
Windex or the like might be economical and do a nice job, though it's alcohol based I'd be leary of what that might do to gaskets and rubber o-rings. I'll stick with the S100.
Have you ever heard of "Pig Spit"? Walmart use to sell it. I liked the product so much I became a dealer. The guy that made it stopped selling to walmart. You could find it in the south in many stores. If you live in the north (I'm in Illinois) or can't find it, send me an email I and could sell you a can of it. You will love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I haven't researched if it hurts anything (chrome, paint, etc.), but I've been having carb issues recently. I sprayed some carb cleaner in there... came back later to see where some dripped on the engine. I took a shop towel and tried to dry it up and as I wiped it around the dirt and grime and grayish looking areas looked brand new almost immediately and has stayed that way since. Gonna look into it to see if there are any issues, but that part of my engine looks insanely clean. Might spray a little on a towel and follow through to the rest of it, cuz it looks GREAT!
Just bought some Pig Split and it works great. I quickly rinse off the cool engine with some water, then diluted Simple Green, scrubbing lightly where needed, then rinse with water again. I dry it with some microfiber towels, then hit it with Pig Spit. Looks like new.
I also have some light scuffing on my frame downtubes where there used to be zip ties (CA emissions hoses). The Pig Spit makes them far less noticeable. Overall, very pleased.
