So I just rolled a 1,000 miles on the 08 SG. I wash the bike once every 2 weeks with meguires car wash using a microfiber mit and microfiber towels to dry. I have some swirls and a few scratches on the tank from who knows what. I have tried to use meguires scratch-x but it didnt seem to really help.
Who here can recomend a solid way to remove the swirls and scratches? I am looking for advice on which products I can purchase from my local paint supply shop to do a complete detail. The local shop carries mostly 3M products, so what ever you can recomend from there line I would purchase. I'm looking to remove the swirls and wax the bike. If that means using 2-3 diffrent products I am ok with that. Any help would be great, thanks.
3M products are good. I never had a problem with them. They make a swirl remover. Or f you know someone in the bodyshop business they can point you to a product. depending on the scratch (s) maybe having a pro look at them, they can give you some guidance
I have an Vivid Black 06 FXDI. Anything which touches it scratches the clear coat.
I purchased some 3M Ultrafina (recommended by the paint store) and a cheap Harbor Freight 7" polisher. I apply the 3M with a foam pad on the polisher and wipe it off with a microfiber towel. It leaves the paint almost flawless, even in direct sunlight. I try an keep my bike meticulously clean. I am very pleased with the results of this product.
I have had heavier scratches for which this product was not heavy enough. For those, I hand applied Scratch-x, then followed up with the 3M product mentioned above with great results.
