My brand new slips on. Gave the lady friend a ride tonight with her new boots and the rubber heal melted on my pipes!
Harley boots but the tag did say for after riding. I wonder if that's why?
Anybody know if this comes off easy or at all? I'm going to wait til it cools and see if it flakes off. Dang.
What would help prevent this the most. Getting something other than a foot peg? Or these floorboard extensions?
Something else to worry about
That has probably happened to just about everybody that rides a Harley or gives a passenger a ride on a Harley. Many fixes. Easy-off oven cleaner. Heat pipes, spray on, wipe off. Just don't get any on the paint. I use Never Dull polish. It's a cotton type cloth that you tear off and rub. It's got good polish stuff on it and works well. Others have used 0000 Super Fine steel wool but I don't have the nerve to try it. I don't like scratches in my chrome but it's said that it works well. Several other fixes that you'll hear also. Good luck.
IMHO (rear) floorboards don't look good on a fatboy. I've never tried easy-off, I use what several chrome specialists recomend and works great, "Simichrome".
i picked up some stuff at the HD dealer looks like a small stick deoderent and works great but I have also had good luck with the never dull and it is a ton cheaper
+1 on heating the pipes and wiping the bulk of it off (though I have never sprayed anything on it, just wiped off the hot melted rubber). My wifes heal melted a bit on my pipes first time she rode. I wiped most of it off with a mico fiber cloth while the pipes were still hot then waited until they cooled and followed it up with Turtle Wax chrome polish. Worked great.

Spray the easy off onto the rag, then apply it onto the mark (let it sit for a bit before wiping it off, if you have to). No chance of overspray on the paint or anything then.
I had a tarp blow onto my hot pipes and melt in several small areas. I used Goo Gone and balled up aluminum foil to scrub it off. Worked great and no scratches or marks. Found the fix on HDForums naturally.
